Optometrists are qualified to test sight and carry out investigation for eye diseases. If the optician detects a problem you may be referred to your GP or directly to see an Ophthalmologist, specialist in diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases.

Eye drops will be used to dilate your pupils, this will cause the pupil to increase in size dramatically, allowing a better view of the retina and macula. Some may show you an Amsler Grid which is a grid of a black background with the horizontal and vertical white line across the grid.
