Effects of AMD | Vision Loss
Does it Cause Complete Loss of Vision?
Breakdown of the macula cells causes loss of sight in the central part of the field of vision. Complete loss of vision does not occur as the side (peripheral) vision remains unaffected. Therefore you are still able to use your peripheral vision to to carry out your day to day activities but this can be extremely difficult to get used to.
Worst case scenario is a black hole in the middle of your vision and only able see to around this balck hole, this is a very physically limiting condition. Having regular eye tests can help prevent macular degeneration or at least slow it’s effect once it has been diagmosed.
